The Aurora Aviation Experience

The Aurora Aviation Academy fixed-wing flight training unit is the newest member of the Aurora Aviation Group of companies.  Since 2003, Aurora Aviation has been a key player in the Canadian aviation industry by providing customers with the highest standards in charter, training, and maintenance services.  Supported by in-house maintenance and lead by a committed and passionate group of aviation professionals, the Aurora Aviation Group added its fixed-wing flight training unit to the family of companies in August 2019.

Meet the Leadership Team

Michael Morin

President and Accountable Executive, Commercial Helicopter Pilot

Michael is the founder of the Aurora Aviation Group.  A Commercial Helicopter pilot himself, Michael started Aurora Aviation as a one-helicopter operation in 2003, specializing in Oil and Gas aviation services and Fire Fighting.  Growing the company to one of Canada’s most sought-after Helicopter Charter companies, his vision to diversify the company into Fixed-Wing training has led to the creation of Aurora Aviation Academy.  By delivering on his dedication to quality, and a commitment to safety, Aurora Aviation Academy has seen similar success, growing to 3 locations in its first 18 months.

Sylvain Leone

Chief Flight Instructor and CHIEF OPERATING OFFICEr,
Class 1

Licensed since 1991, Sylvain worked closely with Michael to launch Aurora Aviation Academy in 2019.  With 30 years of coaching, training and mentorship experience in 3 different industries, Sylvain has brought together his passion for aviation and drive to help others accomplish their goals to Aurora Aviation.  In addition to his role as CFI and FTU Manager, one of Sylvain’s goals is to insure that Aurora Aviation is a cooperative and productive member of the General Aviation Community, working to make aviation accessible, safe and fun for every aviation enthusiast.


Norbert Pfefferkorn

Assistant Chief Flight Instructor - Vernon and Kamloops, Class 1

Norb brings a long, diverse, aviation career to Aurora Aviation and its customers.  Flying for Mission Aviation Services for several years, Norb has helped communities all over in Africa by flying passengers and cargo through some very challenging terrain and local conflict zones.  Shifting to Flight Instruction upon his return to Canada, Norb has an intense desire to see others succeed.  In his role as Class 1 instructor, he is also responsible for our Flight Instructor Rating program and is an excellent role-model for those seeking to become an instructor themselves.  

Ryan Berryman

Assistant Chief Flight Instructor - Kelowna,
Class 1

With over 2,500 hours instructing experience, and more as an Airline Pilot, Ryan comes to Aurora from WestJet and Pacific Coastal as a training Captain.  His diverse aviation background also includes time in over 25 aircraft types as a Ferry Pilot and extensive float experience.  Bringing valuable industry experience to the team, Ryan instructs all courses at Aurora Aviation and is the Assistant CFI for the Kelowna, BC, base.  His Class 1 instructor rating allows us to conduct Flight instructor ratings at the Kelowna base as well.

Kimberly Lysak

Assistant Chief Flight Instructor - Chilliwack,
Class 1

Kim comes to Aurora Aviation with a with a career in both flight instruction and commercial aviation.  Her experience includes work as a mentor to flight instructors all over the world.  As one of Canada’s only ICAO Certified Aviation Training Managers, her passion for teaching and commitment to the success of her students is inspiring.  Leading the charge for our course content, Kim ensures our programs are designed to meet each student’s learning style to both maximize their learning and enhance their training experience.

Rob Fillion

Director of Maintenance and Quality/Safety Manager

Rob brings an extensive Aviation maintenance background to teh Aurora Aviation team.  With a commitment to procedure and process, and keen attention to detail, Rob and the maintenance team ensure that the Aurora Aviation fleet of aircraft are safe and ready for their mission, be it flight training, rental or sightseeing.  As Quality and Safety Manager, his role includes our annual safety and compliance audit, keeping the Group operating at the highest levels of safety and operational excellence.
