The Aurora Aviation Academy fixed-wing flight training unit is the newest member of the Aurora group of aviation companies. For over 15 years, Aurora has been providing customers with the highest standards in helicopter charter, training, and maintenance services. No matter the mission, be it Environmental Monitoring, Forest Fire Suppression, Wildlife Survey, Aerial Photography and Filming, or Tours and Sightseeing, Aurora has been a key player in the Canadian aviation industry. Supported by in-house maintenance and lead by a committed and passionate group of aviation professionals, Aurora now adds its fixed-wing flight training unit to its family of Aviation companies.
Michael is the founder of the Aurora Aviation Group. A Commercial Helicopter pilot himself, Michael started Aurora Aviation as a one-helicopter operation over 15 years ago, growing it to one of Canada’s most sought-after Helicopter Charter companies in Canada, specializing in Oil and Gas aviation services and Fire Fighting. His vision to diversify the company into Fixed-Wing training has led to the creation of Aurora Aviation Academy, which has seen similar success by delivering on his dedication to quality and commitment to safety.
Licensed since 1991, Sylvain worked closely with Michael to launch Aurora Aviation Academy in 2019. With 30 years of coaching, training and mentorship experience in 3 different industries, Sylvain has brought together his passion for aviation and drive to help others accomplish their goals to Aurora Aviation. In addition to his role as CFI and FTU Manager, one of Sylvain’s goals is to insure that Aurora Aviation is a cooperative and productive member of the General Avion Community, working to make aviation accessible, safe and fun for every aviation enthusiast.
Norb brings a long, diverse, aviation career to Aurora Aviation and its customers. Flying for Mission Aviation Services for several years, Norb has helped communities all over in Africa by flying passengers and cargo through some very challenging terrain and local conflict zones. Shifting to Flight Instruction upon his return to Canada, Norb has an intense desire to see others succeed. In his role as Class 1 instructor, he is also responsible for our Flight Instructor Rating program and is an excellent role-model for those seeking to become an instructor themselves.
With over 2,500 hours instructing experience more as a Airline Pilot, Ryan comes to Aurora from WestJet and Pacific Coastal before that, as a training Captain. His diverse aviation background also includes time in over 25 aircraft types as a Ferry Pilot and extensive float experience. Bringing valuable industry experience to the team, Ryan instructs all courses at Aurora Aviation.
Ken has a military Aviation background and has been with the Aurora Aviation Group for several years as Quality and Safety Manager. With a dedication to excellence and an excellent attention to detail, Ken and the maintenance team ensures that the Aurora Aviation fleet of aircraft are safe and ready for their mission, be it flight training or fire-fighting. As Quality and Safety Manager, his role includes our annual safety and compliance audit, keeping the Group operating at the highest levels of safety and operational excellence.
